Wellness Activities to Stay Healthy

Wellness Activities to Stay Healthy Early research shows that around 90% of health problems are the result of poor eating habits. It’s time to put an end to the myth that healthy food comes at a price. It’s time to stop using the excuse that healthy food is expensive and that you can’t afford it (even though you can if you want).

Healthy eating is not hard. It doesn’t require any special equipment or techniques. All you need is information and follow through. The best way to stay healthy is to eat well, find ways to improve your nutrition, and then take action plans when necessary or desired. No special equipment, no expensive supplements, no special training courses. Just common sense, good advice and practice.

2. Eating for Good Health
I don’t know what “wellness” means, but I think it’s a bit of an oxymoron. It can mean so many things, and there is no clear demarcation between the two. I think we are all trying to be “well” in our own way. I do believe in exercise and yoga. I am a huge fan of Pilates and yoga. But, I also believe that it takes more than just looking good to stay healthy: you have to eat well too (and not just junk food!).
So, here are my recommendations for eating for good health:
• Avoid processed foods (the biggest cause of obesity)
• Carry your own reusable shopping bag or take the bus to get groceries at the store (and make sure your grocery store delivers)
• Eat plenty of fruit and vegetables
• Swap out most sugary drinks for water
• Eat small portions and/or choose smaller portions of high-quality protein (like fish or lean meat) rather than larger portions of mixed nuts or seeds
(Note: all are under 100 calories per day.)
I need to go back over this list one more time before writing this blog post because some people will be surprised by what is on here; others will find it irrelevant because they already do these things. But if you even one of them, then you will probably be better off than most people who aren’t doing any of these things!
3. Nutrients Your Body Needs
It’s no secret that we have seen a dramatic increase in the number of people suffering from chronic conditions, including diabetes and heart disease. A recent study has revealed that eating healthy food can be as good for you as exercising. The study, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America (PNAS), found that eating a healthier diet can help prevent or slow down age-related changes in weight loss, blood pressure, and cholesterol levels.
On the other hand, high-fat foods such as ice cream, junk food and sugary drinks were shown to be harmful to our health. The researchers used data from six prospective studies including almost 4.5 million participants who were followed for over four years.
They found that following a healthier diet could aid patients with diabetes and heart disease by lowering their risk factors for developing these conditions and increasing their lifespan by several years (with exercise also having a positive impact).
The researchers also highlight that there are significant benefits to being active compared to being sedentary; that is, sedentary people have an increased risk of developing chronic diseases like diabetes and heart disease compared to those who are active.
4. Healthy Eating Habits
I am a big fan of the book “Eat, Drink, Manage” by Dr. Michael Mosley. It is a great read and it covers a lot of ground on healthy eating. The book offers several categories of foods (fruit, vegetables, lean meats, whole grains), as well as healthy food portions and timing. It is written in a very straight-forward way that anyone can understand. There are also several books out there that cover weight loss, but none that cover healthy eating habits.
I would encourage you to check out some of these:
• The Diet Cure: How to Overcome Chronic Disease by Dr. Mark Hyman
• The 10% Solution: The Secret to Weight Loss That Works Every Time by John Romaniello
• Everything You Need to Know About Natural Health by Dr. Eric Bergman
In general, I do recommend reading more about your chosen diet plan or activity before starting it and then adjusting your approach as needed (some people find it helpful to write down their daily food intake and other activities before starting).
If you find yourself stuck later or if you want to change your approach or goals further down the line, there are many diet plans out there in various categories (low-fat diets for specific health conditions like diabetes or heart disease; high-protein diets for weight loss; low-carb diets for weight loss).
The point here is that your plan should be achievable and should be safe at any stage — even if you are feeling better than ever!
5. Conclusion
Today’s Millennial generation is expected to be the healthiest ever. Why? Because they are getting active, eating right and staying healthy. They aren’t getting enough exercise and they aren’t eating a balanced diet. So what can you do to keep yourself healthy? First, you need to make sure you are getting enough exercise (but not too much). Secondly, your diet needs to be well balanced and include a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables.
Thirdly, you need to get plenty of sleep (but not too much). Fortunately for us Millennials, we have a very convenient way to achieve all of these things: we don’t have to go outside for exercise or go out for dinner or buy food.
All we have to do is sit in front of our computer screens all day long and play games that require no physical exertion whatsoever. And this is exactly what many startups are doing: they have removed the physical pain from their product development process by outsourcing it entirely — which in turn allows them to save on time, money and energy (and therefore resources) by hiring employees who will spend their lives at the office instead of taking their own risk on the road.
The product that is created today cannot replace activities like running a marathon or going kayaking, but it can certainly replace sitting still while there’s nothing more exciting than playing an online game that doesn't involve physical exertion.
