AI Masterclass on ChatGPT & Midjourney (2023)
"AI is rapidly changing the job market, and the future belongs to those who stay ahead of the curve. I recently had the opportunity to visit IIM Bangalore to host an AI workshop and also interact with their students. In this video, I'll share some key snippets from that session and provide key insights on how you can safeguard your career from AI's impact in the next 6 months. So, without wasting any more time, let's get started. [Music]
Awesome, can you hear me? Great to see so many of you here on time. I apologize for being late, but I'm confident it's going to be worth it. Before I proceed, a quick accessibility check: Is there anyone here who is not comfortable with Hindi? Please raise your hands. Fantastic, I'll make sure to stick to English. The slides are accessible, and the audio is clear.
Before
we move forward, I came across an interesting quote a few days ago. It said,
"There are decades where nothing happens, and then there are weeks where
decades happen." In the next 45 to 50 minutes, you'll realize that this
quote is becoming a reality. We're living in those weeks where things are
happening that would have typically taken 50 to 60 years. It's pretty exciting.
The
entire master class is divided into two segments. We'll keep it tightly
organized, with each segment lasting 40 minutes. Now, there's a tool called Mid
Journey, as I mentioned, that allows you to create images. It has a fascinating
history. In November 2022, Version 4 was released. Let's imagine I received a
contract from the government at that time. The government asked me to design a
new prototype for an electric vehicle for Indian streets. This was
groundbreaking. Back in November 2022, if I were to prompt something as simple
as 'minimal futuristic design for an electronic vehicle for Indian streets,'
Mid Journey Version 4 would generate something like this. At that time, I
thought it looked somewhat impractical but impressive because a machine created
it from scratch in just 60 seconds.
However,
in June 2023, we got Version 5.2, which was just 8 months ago. Not a long time
at all. The same prompt on Mid Journey Version 5.2 would generate something
like this. You can clearly see the improvement in just 8 months, all in just 60
seconds. Anyone working on a prototype would no longer start from a blank
canvas but would begin from here.
Now,
the question is, is this just about making things look aesthetically pleasing,
or is there more to Mid Journey? Examine this prototype closely. Do you notice
anything unusual about it? Raise your hands if you do. Some of you mentioned
the stands at the bottom and the color. However, there's something special
about it. Can anyone spot it? Yes, the doors are missing. And if you look
closely at the top, the roof resembles a solar panel. Three things: no driver's
seat, stands at the bottom, handles hanging from the ceiling, and a roof
resembling a solar panel.
I gave
a simple prompt to create a prototype of an electric vehicle. But because Mid
Journey has scanned so many images and is smarter, its ability to predict the
future is significantly higher. So, it automatically filled in the gaps,
suggesting that in the next 10 to 15 years, electric vehicles would likely be
self-driven, powered by solar energy, and convertible into flying automobiles.
AI can help us take a glimpse into the future because it has analyzed a vast
amount of data and can perform pattern recognition at a high level.
Before
we proceed, I want to introduce you to our latest learning website,
'HowToLearn.in,' where you can access free AI resources, roadmaps, and
step-by-step guides that will teach you everything you need to know about tools
like Chat GPT and Mid Journey. You can also explore our offline masterclasses,
AI courses, ebooks, and communities, all in one place. Visit 'HowToLearn.in' to
start learning and upskilling yourself.
In
fact, AI can even help you visualize things that don't currently exist. On the
left is an old school image from 2016, and on the right, I've expanded the
boundaries using Photoshop AI. Photoshop also has built-in AI features in the
'generate' category. Observe the boundaries. Would you ever know that the arm
on the right is AI-generated? It's seamless. Anything in black and white is the
original image, and everything outside of it has been seamlessly added by AI. I
can even extend the height, and anything within the black and white boundary is
real, while everything outside is seamlessly generated by AI. No one will ever
know where reality ends and AI begins.
The
primary and most crucial agenda of today's session is not only about
understanding what AI can do but also about recognizing its limitations. This
is equally important because it's where we, as human beings, excel. As
decision-makers and professionals, when faced with a problem, we must be smart
enough to decide whether to delegate it to a human or outsource it to AI. To
make this decision, you must understand how both AI and humans think and
determine who is stronger in which areas.
So,
I've talked enough. Let's begin with the first module of today's agenda,
covering some first principles and reality checks around AI. You might come
across a lot of misinformation on the internet that can be confusing. In the
next 5 minutes, I'll quickly address some common points to ensure that everyone
is on the same page.
When
you acquire the Pro Plan of Chat GPT, which costs around $1,800, your screen
will appear as follows. By default, it will select Chat GPT 3.5 for free users.
If you have the Pro Plan, you'll see Chat GPT Plus, and you'll have access to
better versions of GPT. At the bottom of your screen, you'll find an input
field where you can chat with the AI, and everything depends on the message you
compose there.
The
first essential term for today is 'prompt.' When I say that I'm prompting Chat
GPT or Mid Journey, I mean that I'm writing a message inside the tool. When you
search on Google or YouTube for Chat GPT prompts for marketing or Mid Journey
prompts for social media, never search for 'Mid Journey tricks,' 'Mid Journey
results,' or 'Mid Journey hacks.' Simply search for 'prompt' because that's
where you start.
Let's
assume you want to study a new marketing concept. If you have the Pro Plan of
Chat GPT, you can even upload PDFs. I won't go into the step-by-step guide for
that, as you can find it on YouTube. Just know that you can now upload PDFs.
After uploading the PDF, you can instruct it to read the PDF and await your
next command.
For example, if you're a product marketer in the SaaS space, you can ask for three key takeaways from the PDF that are relevant to your role. Specify that you want these takeaways to be applicable to your professional life. In less than 60 seconds, it will provide you with concrete pointers tailored to your needs. You can even ask it to help you draft a LinkedIn post based on one of the points.
"Weak,
but nobody knows what will happen in December. Right now, whatever you get from
a tool like Chat GPT should never be blindly trusted. You need to build on top
of it. Let's simplify this into an easy-to-understand workflow:
1. You
receive a problem statement in your daily life.
2. The
human recognizes a gap in the market and knows which problem is most important.
3. The
human gives prompts to AI and provides context. It's our responsibility to
understand real-world constraints and give context to AI.
4. AI
provides a result, which is often impractical on its own.
5. The
human builds on top of that result, making it practical and relevant.
6. The
human delivers the final solution to the stakeholder.
As
of August 2023, this process still requires human input and context. We must
avoid blindly trusting AI outcomes.
There's
an interesting website called pacifistarchive.org that collects newspaper
articles about technophobia. This term refers to the fear that arises when
significant technology advancements occur. Throughout history, people have
often opposed new technologies, such as teddy bears, escalators, and
television, fearing that they would lead to societal downfall. Understanding
history can help us predict how technology will impact society.
When
new technology emerges, three groups of people typically emerge:
·
Opposers: Those who oppose and fear
the technology.
·
Builders: Those who create and profit
from the technology.
·
Users: Those who leverage the
technology for various purposes.
In
the case of YouTube, for instance, while many opposed it, both builders and
users have benefited greatly.
Learning
to prompt AI effectively doesn't mean you should quit your job and become a
prompt engineer. It's about understanding how AI works while continuing your
daily life. It's essential not to become overly reliant on technology and
maintain a balance.
Another
critical mindset shift is distinguishing between execution and ideation in your
work. Execution involves tasks that can be prescribed and automated, while
ideation focuses on creative problem-solving, which is challenging to
prescribe. The value of execution will decrease as automation becomes more
prevalent, making ideation increasingly important.
Remember
that you're not outsourcing tasks to AI; you're making AI handle time-consuming
tasks, allowing you to focus on higher-value activities. Prompt engineering is
a valuable skill to understand but doesn't require a full career change.
AI
tools like Chat GPT can be helpful for upskilling. The impact of AI on learning
and education is significant. For instance, if you want guidance in the B2B
marketing space, you can create a fictional scenario and instruct AI to act as
your coach. This way, you can use AI to enhance your learning and knowledge.
In
summary, AI is a tool that should complement and enhance your abilities, not
replace them. Understanding how to use AI effectively while maintaining
critical thinking and creativity is essential in an evolving technological
landscape."
